Increased Seizure Activity at the Port

By statute, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers posted at ports of entry are authorized to seize US currency, gold bars, or gold jewelry for violations of the law mandating truthful declarations.  We have seen CBP seizure activity increase in recent years and several high profile "trophy seizures" have been the subject of CBP press releases.

ITC has been successful in helping clients recover monetary instruments subject to these seizures and forfeitures under 31 USC §5317 and has now been engaged to assist a client recover a trophy-size quantity of 22K gold jewelry seized under authority of 19 USC §1497.
